On 28 November 2025, Mariana Katzarova, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Russian Federation, visited the Court and met with President Mattias Guyomar. The Deputy Registrar of the Court, Abel Campos, also attended the meeting.

The Rapporteur shared with the President her assessment of the human rights situation in Russia. They also referred to the case Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia, in which Russia has been held accountable for widespread and flagrant human rights abuses arising from the conflict in Ukraine since 2014, in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The ECHR is the only international judicial body before which the Russian Federation has been held accountable for violations of human rights protected by the European Convention.
