On 9 January 2026 the President of the Court, Mattias Guyomar, attended the solemn hearing for the opening of the judicial year at the French Court of Cassation in Paris. He was accompanied by members of the Registry.

The solemn hearing of the Court of Cassation marks the beginning of the judicial year throughout France. On this occasion, the President of and Principal Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation delivered speeches to the most senior representatives of the State, including the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice.

They notably emphasized the importance of the bonds of trust that must exist between all courts, as well as the decisive role that the European Court has played in consolidating the rule of law in Europe.

Sustaining that shared responsibility, which is founded on ongoing dialogue with national courts, lies at the heart of the Convention system and is a priority for the Court.
