During the colloquium of the Network of Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union, held in The Hague from 13 to 15 November 2025, the President of the Court, Mattias Guyomar, spoke about social media and its impact on court communication and judicial independence.

“Judicial communication adapted to the digital context has become a vital necessity”, said President Guyomar.

He emphasized that courts’ judicial communication policies must be adapted to take advantage of the immediacy and visibility offered by social media, without compromising the nature of judicial discourse, its purpose, or the fundamental structures of its expression. He also discussed the European Court of Human Rights’ presence on social media, which aims to keep the public informed about court-related news and activities, while also promoting understanding about the rule of law and the importance of judicial independence.

Recalling that ensuring visibility was a priority of his Presidency, he underlined that judicial institutions must gain and maintain public trust and understanding through using all the available means of communication.

He concluded his speech by announcing the launch of a new LinkedIn page dedicated to the Presidency of the Court.
