Joint interview by the Presidents of the ECHR and the CJEU

On the sidelines of a visit by a delegation of the European Court of Human Rights to the Court of Justice of the European Union on 24 November 2025, President Mattias Guyomar and President Koen Lenaerts gave a joint interview about the work of each Court.
The discussion focused on how each Court protects human rights in its own way, how the two courts apply and interpret their founding texts, and the challenges faced by the two Courts in the current political, geopolitical, and societal context.
This interview takes on added importance as we mark two historic anniversaries: the 75th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights and the 25th anniversary of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
