Exchange of views with the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance

On 4 December 2025, the President of the Court, Mattias Guyomar, took part in an exchange of views with the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, ECRI.
In his opening remarks, President Guyomar provided examples of the complementarity between the Court’s case-law and ECRI’s early-warning work. He used selected rulings to illustrate how the Court has addressed the issue of discrimination in its case-law by applying its “living instrument” doctrine.
During the meeting, participants exchanged views on topics such as racial profiling and racist profile abuse; discrimination against LGBTI persons in the field of teaching; and school segregation of Roma children. María Elósegui, judge elected in respect of Spain, Gilberto Felici, judge elected in respect of San Marino, and Davor Derenčinović, judge elected in respect of Croatia gave presentations on these topics and provided examples from the Court’s case-law.
