Delegation of the Supreme Court of Estonia concludes visit to the Court

On 22 January 2026, a delegation of the Supreme Court of Estonia, led by its President, Villu Kõve, concluded a two day visit to the Court. During the visit, they had the opportunity to exchange views with judges and members of the Registry on issues relating to legal certainty, consistency of case law, and judges’ disciplinary responsibility.
The President of the Court, Mattias Guyomar, welcomed the participants and highlighted the vital dialogue between the Court and national courts through judgments, advisory opinions, the Knowledge Sharing platform, and institutional visits — all of which reinforce judicial unity and solidarity.
“The practical application of shared responsibility is based on mutual understanding, partnership, and trust. These qualities are best fostered through constant dialogue,” said President Guyomar, adding that “in keeping with the principle of subsidiarity, human rights complaints are most effectively dealt with at the national level”.
The Registrar of the Court, Marialena Tsirli, shared the Court’s experience and good practices in reducing the backlog, elaborating on the reforms introduced and the Court’s new working methods and procedures. She also highlighted the Court’s knowledge sharing and awareness raising initiatives.
