On 26 June, the President of the Court, Mattias Guyomar, met with members of the Steering Committee for Human Rights to exchange views on the Convention system and the Court’s role within it.

Focusing on the principle of subsidiarity, the Court President stressed its importance in ensuring the proper functioning of the Convention system. “It implies an appropriate distribution of roles between national authorities and our Court,” he explained, adding that the Court relies on the national courts to fully apply the Convention and to ensure the effective protection of the rights it guarantees.
