Information visits
- Information visits for legal professionals and law students can be organised. In general, the programme includes the screening of a documentary The European Court of Human Rights followed by a presentation on the role and work of the Court lasting approximately one hour. The presentation may also take place after the group has attended a hearing (see calendar of scheduled hearings).
- Information visits are organised only for groups. The minimum age of participants is 18 years.
- Information visits only take place on working days. The Court is shut at the weekends and on public holidays.
- As we receive a very large number of requests, we recommend that you apply two months in advance.

A Court Open to All: Guided Tour
Guided tours of the Human Rights Building in Strasbourg, intended for the general public, are organised on the first Friday of each month, starting at 2.30 p.m. The tour lasts approximately one hour and is conducted in English or French.
- Prior registration is mandatory.
The form must be completed by every visitor aged 18 or over. Minors accompanying an adult must also be mentioned in the registration form by the adult responsible for them.
Online registration for the guided tour on Friday 4 September 2026 at 2.30 p.m. closes on 1 September at 5.30 p.m. CET.
As the number of places is limited, registration forms will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note:
(1) All visitors must present a valid ID card or passport to enter Court premises.
(2) Photos and/or videos might be taken during the event. If you attend, you may appear in photos, videos or other content posted via the Court’s communication channels, including its website and social media accounts, for the purpose of promoting its work and activities. If you do not wish to appear in photos or videos, please inform the group’s guide on the day of the tour.
(3) Food and drinks, including water bottles, are not permitted inside the Court. Water fountains are available.
Rules of security and conduct
- Strict punctuality is requested.
- The number of participants should not exceed that stated in the list of participants, which will be required beforehand.
- Appropriate dress is required.
- For security reasons, access is only given to those parts of the building that are open to the public. Access to the cafeteria is prohibited.
- The building does not have cloakroom or left-luggage facilities. Baggage will not be accepted under any circumstances.
