On 6 February 2026, the United Kingdom’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Migration visited the Court, as part of a two-day visit to Strasbourg. The delegation was welcomed by the President of the Court, Mattias Guyomar, who spoke about the importance of maintaining a balance of powers within a system of checks and balances. The group also had the opportunity to exchange views with Hugh Mercer, judge elected in respect of the United Kingdom, and with members of the Registry. They presented the Court’s case law on this topic and noted that the proportion of applications submitted to the Court which concern immigration matters is low.
