Open Day 2025: Inside the Human Rights Building

On 21 September 2025, the Court organised an Open Day to mark the 75th anniversary of the Convention and the 30th anniversary of the Human Rights Building.
More than 3,500 visitors had the opportunity to visit the iconic Human Rights Building and view the original text of the European Convention on Human Rights, signed on 4 November 1950 in Rome by 12 member States of the Council of Europe.
Visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about how the Court works and meet judges and members of the Court’s Registry.
They also had the chance to visit exhibitions celebrating the 75th and 30th anniversaries of the Convention and the Court building, enjoy cartoons on human rights, and sit in on presentations that bring to life the Convention’s history, its drafting (the “preparatory work” or travaux préparatoires) and the many rights it protects.
In addition, visitors took an immersive drone tour of the Court’s building, while children took part in a range of activities, including a photo board and a drawing competition.
The Open Day event continues a tradition of engagement and accessibility that lies at the heart of the Court.
