Court President meets Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

26/06/25
On 25 June, the President of the Court, Mattias Guyomar, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the latter's visit to the Council of Europe.
That same day, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, signed an agreement on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, including the Statute of the Special Tribunal.
The role of this Tribunal will be complementary to that of the European Court of Human Rights, which to this day remains the only international judicial body before which the Russian Federation can be held accountable as a State for violations of human rights protected by the Convention.
