Court delegation visits the UK Supreme Court

On 13 February 2026, a delegation from the European Court of Human Rights, led by its President, Mattias Guyomar, visited the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom for a series of meetings and discussions. The delegation included Vice-President Arnfinn Bårdsen, Vice-President Ivana Jelić, Section Presidents Lado Chanturia, Ioannis Ktistakis, and Kateřina Šimáčková, as well as the judge elected in respect of the United Kingdom, Hugh Mercer.
During the visit, the delegation, the President and Justices of the UK Supreme Court and senior members of the judiciaries of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, exchanged views on several topics: judicial communication, led by President Guyomar and The Right Hon Lord Burrows; public international law, led by Judge Ioannis Ktistakis and The Right Hon Lord Stephens; and the influence of fundamental rights on the use of AI in judicial processes, led by Judge Hugh Mercer and The Rt Hon Sir Geoffrey Vos.
Strengthening judicial dialogue is essential to the effectiveness of the Convention, built on shared responsibility between national courts and the European Court of Human Rights.
