Venice Commission’s 35th anniversary

On 11 October 2025, the Venice Commission celebrated its 35th anniversary with a ceremony in Palazzo Ducale in Venice, which brought together numerous dignitaries from the Council of Europe and its member States.
During the ceremony, the Vice-President of the Court, Ivana Jelić, delivered a speech highlighting the close relationship between the Court and the Venice Commission.
“For the European Court of Human Rights, the Venice Commission has been a steadfast partner. Our institutions share not only a mandate within the Council of Europe but a deeper kinship: both of us ensure that the promises of law are not betrayed by the temptations of power. Where the Court gives binding judgments, the Commission provides persuasive authority; together, we form a dialogue of principle that enriches European public law,” said the Court’s Vice-President.
