On 26 October 2026, during his annual visit to the Norwegian Supreme Court, the Vice-President of the Court, Arnfinn Bårdsen, met with Chief Justice Toril Marie Øie and addressed the Court’s justices. In his speech, Vice-President Bårdsen outlined recent developments at the European Court of Human Rights and described some of the current challenges that the Convention system is facing, emphasising the importance of shared responsibility and subsidiarity and the key role of domestic courts in the effective implementation of the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Convention.
