On 10 September 2026 the Vice-President of the Court, Arnfinn Bårdsen, attended the Swedish Arbitration Days 2026, a biennial high-level international conference organised by the Swedish Arbitration Institute. This year’s edition, which took place in Stockholm (Sweden), was dedicated to The Future of the Rule of Law in International Arbitration.

In his keynote speech and in the subsequent panel discussion with leading experts on international arbitration, Vice-President Bårdsen emphasised that the work of ordinary courts of law and that of arbitral tribunals are complementary and integrated in a larger rule of law edifice, with the shared purpose of serving justice to those seeking it.

“The fair hearing guarantees enshrined Article 6 § 1 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the vast case law of the European Court of Human Rights, may serve as a point of reference for arbitral tribunals, securing coherence in the law and judicial practices, enhancing foreseeability for the parties, giving guidance in identifying what are the indispensable due process requirements in arbitration and reducing the risk that the arbitral award be set aside,” said the Vice-President.
