Judgment concerning the Katyń massacre
16/04/2012
In the case Janowiec and Others v. Russia, the Court found that it could not examine the applicants’ complaint about the ineffective investigation into the Katyń massacre. However, it held that Russia had failed to cooperate with the Court, and that its response to most victims’ relatives’ attempts to find out the truth about what happened in 1940 had amounted to inhuman treatment.

The Court held a Chamber hearing in the case of Lutsenko v. Ukraine. The case concerned a well-known politician’s complaint that his arrest and the decision on his detention were arbitrary and unlawful, and that he was not informed about the reasons for his arrest.
